The clutch of an air-cooled VW engine must reliably transmit the engine's torque to the gearbox. With standard engines, the original clutch usually works without problems.
However, as soon as performance upgrades are made - for example, through larger carburetors, higher compression, or a sharper camshaft - the load on the clutch also increases.
A typical sign of this is a slipping clutch during strong acceleration. In such cases, a combination of a suitable clutch disc and a reinforced pressure plate can be useful.
Clutch discs with high-quality friction linings offer stable power transmission and can be used both in everyday driving and in sporty driving.
In conjunction with reinforced pressure plates, for example Stage-1 or Stage-2 variants, even more powerful engines can be operated reliably.
What to look out for
-
matching combination of disc and pressure plate
-
clean installation
-
correct adjustment of the clutch actuation
The right clutch ensures that the engine power is reliably transmitted to the road without unnecessarily restricting comfort and drivability.
